  • 1983 FLT rear rotor swap

Is it possible to change out a rear rotor on an FLT without violating the enclosed chain??
    Never messed with one much.
Thinking of loosening/removing the rotor bolts while everything's solid then pulling the axle just far enough out to swap rotors.
    Doable???
It looks like the left muffler will have to come off. No biggy compared to messing with the enclosed chain----or so I've heard.

    yes that is doable-
    wheel can come out
    leaving chain/sprocket
    in place

Like BD said, there is no need to fuck with the enclosed chain. You can remove the rear wheel without opening the chain housing. The wheel bolts are accessible through the big plug in the chain housing. Slip rubber hose over your Allen wrench so you don't bugger the threads in the chain enclosure...(ask me why I know this)

        Thanks for the info.
Still trying to locate that big 40939-79 rear rotor.
        It appears v-twin discontinued theirs.
Drag Specialties 1710-1064 appears to be the only other choice as of now

The hardest part is getting the axle back through correctly when you remount the wheel.

I’ve got a good used one, got it before I decided to change my 83 to an Evo with belt drive. Pay shipping it’s yours.
