  • 77 flh kickstart gear bonded to mainshaft at 60 mph

Lucky save on Friday rounding a bend could have ended badly , I will let the photos do the talking and no lock tab was noticed on disassembly
box has had two flush outs with diesel so far , The box did have oil and was shifting fine , that bush looked like it had been badly chewed up meaning no oil maybe ?

Still love the old girl and cant wait to get her out again .

Did you have the dripper for the kicker gear installed? I don't see it in your pics.

the bushing looks to have that Chinese color to it, i.e., shitty bushing--maybe

Is that transmission original to the bike?
The outer bearing retainer looks to be the later version.
No dripper thingy on them either iirc

Maybe the dripper came with the factory kick start add on kit, electric start only wouldn't need the dripper. My '84 FXE had the kicker added before the original owner took delivery and it has it in addition to of course having the later bearing retainer.

edit* I checked my parts book and the dripper/deflector is listed as a part for kick start transmissions only. Dripper part number 33429-39 '71-'79, 33429-80 '80-on.

Hi thanks for the reply's I got called out for work , always happens when you need to be in the shed tinkering on the bike
Racepres & Bonehead , Yep I was not expecting that and all I can think no oil to starter gear, don't want this to ever happen again !

Tom , Racerjim0, 66 Glide, Shovelrandy , you are right it is a late model 4 speed it has never given me any issues before [have not had to open it except for oil changes } ,and the dripper was not installed the photos are as it was found on inspection I am in the process of ordering the parts and the oil deflector with the starter clutch washer that was not installed as well and hopefully a better starter gear , I have flushed the box twice with diesel and hope the debris haven't done to much damage , before i got the camera out there was a fair bit of fine paste /oil in kicker cover from that bushing

Late model with drain plug at the bottom or at the back right side?
                      Just curious;”.

The drain plug is at the back right side , when the 4 speed was purchased a fair few years ago from a shop with a good name back then as a quick replacement as it was my daily commuter ride back then I haven't had any issues except normal transmission sprocket issues ect
